Seven Habits If Highly Effective People
The Seven Habits if Highly Effective People, by Steven Covey is an enhancing book based on personal experiences, and tips or suggestions for how to better our lives. He reveals ways of changing by providing a seven-step approach, which will give a positive accent to your life. The seven habits are as follows:5. Seek First to Understand….Then to be Understood In the course of working through these steps, a person goes from being dependent to independent and then on to interdependent. I’m not very comfortable with becoming interdependent, because of some traumatic experiences; I do not like to be alone. I depend on others to make me feel safe. I did spend last summer living alone, and hated every minute of it. I would leave the fan running every night so that I could fall asleep. Now that I am recently married, I am very dependent on my husband for many reasons. One of the many is that he makes me feel protected and safe. I think that it is healthy to rely on the people that are closest to you. In the future when I become a teacher, I will have to depend on the knowledge that I have learned
As for my mission statement, I think that I, like many others am having some problems developing it into one statement. Before I can make that statement, I have to look at my goals for my life and my future. Those are the goals that really stand out for me, and will help me in developing my mission statement. They are all long-term goals, and I know that they will not happen overnight. When I think about each goal, I have to think about the steps that it will take to complete each one. Habit number four brought to my attention that every situation should be win/win. This is very important as long as it is approached in the right way. This means that you should go about the situation without provoking too much authority. In a win/win situation a teacher will receive the behavior wanted if the student has the confidence that what they are doing is right. This may be difficult to achieve but the results speak for themselves. Always keep a positive attitude no matter what the situation. Make each person a significant individual in your life, and show that by caring and helping them in any way that you can. Always keep God at the center of your life and your marriage. Never get too busy that you don’t have time for family. Keep in touch with family and friends no matter where you live or how far away. Treat money as something you worked hard to get, and spend it wisely. This is somewhat of a beginners mission statement, but Covey says that it will change with time. As I grow older, I know that my goals will change because hopefully I will have accomplished the ones I have now and have moved to a higher level. I know that I want to make a difference in people’s lives that is why I have chosen teaching as my profession. I want to make an impact on the lives of the children that I teach, and make them feel that
