Looking for Alibrandi

Accepting yourself before you accept others is very important part in social interaction. Looking for Alibrandi explores this issue, how Josie interacts with other characters such as Jacob, her mother Christina and her Father Michael Andretti.
Josie's impression of Jacob after her first interaction with him changes over time, because she accepts herself.
Josie initial reaction to Jacob was just a judgement on the school he went to and how he behaved around his friends.
"Cook high is a public school in the area. We don't get along with them cause we think were better than them." (Page 26).
"On the last day of Year 10, Jacob Coote and about ten other friends, the twelve of us were bombarded with eggs, rotten fruit and vegetable." (Page 26-27).
After she first meets Jacob properly she begins to change. She learns that Life doesn't always turn out the way you want it to, and in her case it's having a more intimate relationship with Jacob instead of John. She also learns to have more of an open mind about people and that she was wrong about Jacob.
She changes her perspective of Jacob because she forms a relationship with him and gets to him. Josie finds that he is a very different person than what she first thought.
"Sometimes his a tough guy and I cant imagine him bashing someone's head in and other times his this real nice sensitive guy.".
This is an example of how Josie accepted her self before she accepted someone else.
Josie's acceptance of her self plays a huge part in her relationship with her mother. The relationship between her and her mum can be very erratic at times; this is because of the change happening in their lives. This change is Christina dating again and Michael Andretti coming back.
Josie is not very familiar with change, so the acceptance that things are eventually going to change is hard for her to accept. At the start of these changes it was very hard for her because she was thinking about herself and not her mother so the were not communicating very well.
