A Mr. Berger summed up the sociological perspective by seeing the general in a particular. Seeing patterns and noticing the behavior of different people are characteristics of sociology. Human behavior is not what people decide to do, nor does society shape our lives. We can choose our own outlook on society by gaining knowledge of other societies. Sociological perspective helps view the truth of common sense. Questioning the ordinary beliefs and taking precautions with assumptions and opinions. It helps notice opportunities and constraints. By learning and adapting we can choose our paths in life. People have the ability to participate in society. It also helps us live in a diverse world. The origins of Sociology came from many different changes that occurred in the world. From the Industrial technology came the occurrence of cities. Cities created more crime, anger, pollution, and strange non-traditional family uprisings. All of these changed and developed society as the world grew. Social paradigms play a big part in the world today. The majority of people don’t realize the name for what they encounter every day but it is there. Culture is the values, beliefs, behavior, and things that form a way of life. Culture does not exist without a society. Sharing culture and interacting is society. Often the question of normal is asked. But what is normal? The way of life to one people is normal to himself or herself, but not to another. Communication is by far one of the greatest device man possesses. Language is the use of symbols that allow people to communicate with one another. Language can help pass down history and teach people ways of different societies and cultures. Language is a great tool and can be used in many different ways. Values and beliefs range wide in different Cultures. Values are often what society should and are instilled as young children as well as adults. Those who think it can hold beliefs true. The U.S. is a very multicultural nation therefore a need of Cultural diversity is great. With a large immigration rate in the US, the American people have had a chance to learn and use many different cultures. Subcultures develop such as different religions or groups of similar ideas or goals. Countercultures also play a part in society that they go against certain values and strive for their interdependence from society. Ethnocentrism is judging another culture by the standards of one’s own culture. Culture can restrain social possibilities, but can be changed and improved by our understanding and acceptance.
