Babies Having Babies: Teen Pregnancy
Everyday, a new baby is born to a teenage mother and father. Because of this many young teens lose out on “teen life”. I know this because I’ve been there. I gave birth at the young age of sixteen. Teen pregnancy is a very controversial problem in today’s society. Many people, especially parents want to combat teen pregnancy. One of the most argued issues about teen pregnancy is whether or not schools should be allowed to teach about and make birth control available to students. Is it? Peer pressure is part of daily life to an adolescent. This is something that many teens will not learn to cope with for years to come. In the mix of this peer pressure, is often a push to have sex. The biggest problem with this is that many teens are not educated about their birth control options. Another problem is that often times the birth control is not readily available to them. They can find condoms in the stores but, to young teens that are not as mature as an adult, purchasing condoms can be an embarrassing adventure. In order to get the pill or shot, you must go to a doctor or a teen center such as Planned Parenthood. However, this frequently means that they will need a parental signature to obtain these methods of birth control
