Student Field Observation - Communities And Schools

SSFER Description and Reflective Narrative

In this assignment I decided to participate in these categories: Extended classroom observation and a teacher interview at Horace Mann Foreign language Magnet. Thirdly, I also attended A Martin Luther King Day pageant.

I decided to observe at Horace Mann Foreign Language Magnet based on my admiration for one of the fifth grade teachers there. I also work there as a Co-op student in the afternoon. The classroom I am observed was a fifth grade classroom with mostly Hispanic students.

She informed me later that she has students ranging from seriously learning disabled, to dyslexic, to non-staffed gifted children all in one room. I later found out through other teachers that she is also considered one of the best teachers in fifth grade and has the highest test scores or a non-gifted classroom in the building.

Initially I attended this event because my mother said she thought I would appreciate the value of it. When I entered the gym where the pageant was held I saw one side of the gym packed with students cre
