Animal Experimentation:

Voices demanding the rights of animals against vivisection have been louder then ever over the past thirty years. Vivisection is the act or practice of cutting into or otherwise injuring living animals, especially for the purpose of scientific research. Animal rights against vivisection have been expressed in a serious of protest and riots, which have fallen short of their purpose. Although Vivisection has been taking place since the seventeenth century nothing has happened to stop the inequitable situation. Vivisection experiments fall into three categories: animal testing (attempts to test the toxicity of drugs and substances), experimental research on animals (study of human disease), dissection and Practice Surgery (teaching medical students anatomy and surgical techniques). One should argue that none of God's creatures man nor beast should be but through such trauma. In a counter argument some believe animals or “beast” are not entitled to such moral rights.

ANIMAL TESTING (what exactly is the problem?):

Every year introduces new trends and with them come thousands of new cosmetics, household products and personal items that are introduced into the market. During the duration of

There is much controversy on weather or not animals should be given rights. Animals in today's society are treated as the inferior creatures they are, but how far can we take this inferior treatment? Over 75, 000 animals die each year in an attempt for human betterment. 50% of the animals tested die during the experiment, the other 50% are killed through such means of decapitation for further experimental use. Many argue that since animals do not possess emotion or desire they should not fall into moral consideration. Others such as the 1700 philosopher Descartes believe animals don't have the capability to feel pain, or if so it is at significantly smaller amount then humans. When in reality equal suffering should be considered no matter whom is bearing the suffering man or beast.

"Animals are completely different from humans, and no animal species can serve as an experimental model for man. Each animal has a genetic code of its own, which is a fixed datum, characteristically unique in each species, while there are differences, and different genetic codes, can only lead medical science into error." [ Brecher, 1989] Considering the words of Brecher no experimental research on animals can benefit humans. When conducting animal experiments scientist don’t take into consideration that animals and humans are very different physiologically, metabolically, anatomically, genetically and psychologically. For example the circulation systems of dogs are very different from that of a human because dogs walk on four legs and humans walk on two.

Only about 1.16% of human diseases are found in animals. 88% of doctors would agree that animal experiments can be misleading due to the large difference in anatomical and physiological difference between animals and humans. According to specific test animal tests and human results only match 5%-25% of the time. Drugs that pass animal tests end up harming or killing humans about 61% of the time. Vivisection only gives s
