His numerous amount of contest won, starting his own successful skateboard company, and landing the most difficult vert skateboard trick ever, the 900. Through all of his times he has contributed to making skateboarding a mainstream, respectable, and acceptable sport while still progressing in the sport.

Tony Hawks childhood was more different than most. Being the youngest of the whole family and having two somewhat older parents. Born on May 12, 1968 in San Diego he was somewhat of a “demon boy” (Hawk 1). His sister Lenore was 21 his sister Patricia was 18 and brother Steve was 12. Growing up Tony even admitted, “I was a geek” (19). He was also not so coordinated when he “recognized his natural talent and stopped crawling and started falling” (23).

As a boy Tony tried organized sports and did not like the team thing. “When I was 7 I joined little league basketball and baseball. My dad, with his usual enthusiasm, became coach of

In 1982, Stacey and Tony were at a contest and on the entry form there was one of two boxes to check, one for pros and one for amaturers. Stacey came up to me and said, “Are you going to turn pro? (60)” in this contest he debuted 3rd place to the professional skating world.

One day Tony and Cindy were shopping in LA and walked into the diamond district. They found some rings and were engaged by default. The wedding didn’t plan out to how it was supposed to. The priest didn’t get Tony’s name right they called him “Andy” and he had to whisper to him “my name is Tony.” And that was it they were husband and wife.

Tony hated high school growing up always being the social outcast. He prayed every night that they would move. So they moved to San Deiguito. He lived on the edge of the school district, so only him and a few others lived out in the boonies with him so they school didn’t send a regular sized bus out they sent a short bus. His “grand entrance-as a professional skateboarder-into the new school was about to be made on the short buss. Every time he stepped of the buss students walking by would laugh.

Tony’s first real board was a Dave Andrecht board for Sims. Although Tony and his friends had skateboards they didn’t have safety equipment so they had to rent pads. “It’s the ultimate extreme sport. And take more balls then motocross, skateboarding, and BMX combined”(28). It was so bad because by the time they had gotten to oasis to rent pads 4 other sweaty, stinky skaters had had the pads already. But none of this mattered to him because he was skating oasis. “I would have worn a diaper on my head if those were the rules” Tony once said (29).

The moment he stepped in the park he did not take a brake the whole day and skated every bit of the park. “ It was a vacuum that sucked all my energy, and for the first time in my life I actually felt … content. (29)” From that day on all Tony’s energy was focused on getting rides to Oasis after school. Tony delivered papers and spent all of his money getting into Oasis.

These are some quotes form skaters that know Tony personally and have written books and have included him in there stories Tony is a revolutionary man and a great skater at that.
