The Emotion That Makes The World Go ‘Round
The Emotion that Makes the World Go ‘Round People spend their entire life searching for love, while most have no have no clue what love actually is. I have spent 18 years searching for love, and trying to figure out what love is. I have come up with two definite things in my search for love; one is that love does exist and two is that I have never been in it. I’m not talking about the love that a person has for their parents, but the love that you share with another human being, because you have made that connection on all levels, and cant picture your life without them A survey of Endicott College students have produced such answers as love is the complete infatuation and devotion to the happiness of another person and love is safe, love is something you believe in with all your heart- until it almost kills you, its not worrying about the future because you know that at least one thing in your life will be definite, and that that person will be there by your side. Love is one of the most intense of all human experiences, and it can be found everywhere. What is love? Love is one of those emotions that is almost impossible to put into words. Why do people spend their entire lives searching for love? What is so specia
Being in love is very much a part of collegiate life. 83% of 620 never married undergraduates reported that they had been in love with a dating partner. 67% also reported that love was essential for a happy marriage in that they would divorce if they fell out of love (Brantley & Knox & Zusman, 2002, p. 1). Males tend to say “I love you” first, and that generally occurs in older people. The survey also showed that males say “I love you” for sex. Males may have been reinforced in past encounters with females that “love disclosure is associated with the woman’s increased willingness to have sex” (Knox & Zusman, 1998, p.2). In general, males use love to get sex, and men are much more apt to seek sex early in the relationship (Knox & Zusman, 1998, p.2). What goes along with saying “I love you” is breaking up. Breaking up is not terribly difficult for most individuals, and most people are able to move from lovers to friends (Knox & Zusman & Kalunzy & Cooper, 2000, p. 4). Love is a common experience amongst college students. In a recent survey of 184 undergraduates at East Carolina University 94% reported that they had been in love before, and over a third reported that they had been in 3 or more relationships in which they were in love (Knox & Schacht & Zusman, 1999, p.2). These students had various romantic beliefs. One romantic belief about love is “love at first sight.” Evidence shows that those younger (under the age of 19) are much more apt to believe that you can fall in love the first time that you see a person (Knox & Schacht & Zusman, 1999, p.2). Another of the common romantic beliefs is that love conquers all. Younger students again were the leader in this belief with 61% of those surveyed under 19 believed this (Knox & Schacht & Zusman, 1999, p.2). These beliefs seem to be occurring because of the immaturity and inexperience of younger students as opposed to upperclassmen. Generally, students under the age of 19 refers to freshmen, and freshmen coming into college usually don’t know what a serious relationship is. This could account
