Many people think the greatest danger of rape comes from a stranger, a woman is much more likely to be raped by someone she knows. Women sometimes takes on the terrible burden of guilt, thinking that they asked to be raped if they had too much to drink, went to the guy’s room to listen to music or talk, or getting into his car. But the fact is that doing those things is never asking to be raped. Doing them does not means a woman is consenting to have sex with a man. If you have had sex before, does that mean you cannot be raped? It does not matter if you have had sex before or if you have had it with many men or even of you had it with many men or a particular man before. If you do not want it, it is rape. Just because a woman agreed to do some sexual things does not mean they have had agreed to intercourse. Even if the man is very turned on, a woman has the right to say stop at any time. Losing self-control because of drinking and might think that because the both parties were drunk it was not rape. The fact that either person was drunk never excuses rape.

There are ways to help prevent date rape. First, whenever you have a date, make sure someone knows whom you are going out with and where you are going. If a boy invites a woman to his house make sure that someone else will be there also like a parent, sibling, or friend. If there is an uncomfortable feeling on a date for any reason trust you instincts. Do whatever has to be done to get out of the situation safely. If a boy starts coming on too strong, or if he tries to force himself on you sexually, speak with a firm, strong voice. Make it very clear that you want him to stop. If spoken in a giggly, soft voice, you are giving him mixed signals. He may think you are playing hard to get and that you are indeed saying no but meaning yes. Always stay in control of your senses, if you are using drugs or alcohol, your judgment will become clouded, and you will have a harder time getting out of an unsafe situation.
