Is Intelligence inherited or is a learned behavior?Is intelligence a product of heredity or does it come from an individual’s environment? The nature versus nurture debate regarding intelligence is one that has continued throughout the years. Innumerable studies have been conducted on this issue but there is still no clear-cut answer. Both biological and environmental factors occurring before or after birth can affect intellectual abilities. Your intellectual ability is what we would normally call your intelligence. Intelligence is important because it shows how people think, what they are capable of, what they know educationally and how they go about everyday situations. A person’s intelligence can develop as early as head start (Zimbardo 445). Children learn different things and they learn comprehension at early ages. Being involved in school is an important way of raising your IQ. The amount of schooling children receive is directly correlated with their IQ scores (Zimbardo 443). Even as an adult, environmental factors such as the cognitive complexity and intellectual demands of ones job can influence mental abilities through life (443). Educational influences in the environment including schooling, enables a child to attain his or her potential intelligence (Carlson 350) Crystallized intelligence is a form of intelligence that reflects the accumulation of verbal skills and factual knowledge (392). This can actually increases with age. It’s like the old saying “with age comes wisdom.” The older you get the more you can apply life experiences to other situations. A younger person may not know how to handle a situation the first time around, but when faced with that situation at a later age, they may take a different approach to get results. to ones environment (Kassin 408), is one of the many definitions that describes intelligence. Being intelligent can mean academically knowing, having “street smarts”, being intelligently wise, having the ability to carry on a way of abstract thinking and learn if profit by experience (Kassin 408). Another word for “ street smarts” is called practical intelligence. Practical intelligence is the ability to size up new situations, figure out the unspoken “rules of the game”, and do what is necessary to adapt to life’s demand (Kassin 427). Intelligence means different things to different people (Rummo 1). Intelligence can also be determined by the culture in which people live around. (1) There are several IQ tests that are designed to build peoples intelligence. There are different Test such as Achievement Test, Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test.
