"Humanity has made little real progress over the past century or so. Technological innovations have taken place, but the overall condition of humanity is no better. War, violence and poverty are still with us. Technology cannot change the condition of humanity.".
In this argument, the arguer asserts that technology has made little contribution to the life of humanity. To strengthen the assert, the arguer cites that technology innovations have not eliminated the threaten of war, violence and poverty. As a result, the arguer concludes that the technology cannot change the condition of humanity. What the arguer claims seems reasonable, but if we get deeper insight into the problem, we can see how superficial it is.
Firstly, it is not fair to deny the great contribution modern technology has done to the life of humanity. The rapid development of technology has made the life of humanity far more convenient than ever before. Nowadays we use e-mail to get in touch with our friends ,which is much more efficient than sending letters the traditional way of communications. A lot of people take their own mobile phones with them instead of looking for kiosks everywhere to make calls. Technology has greatly changed our way of life and some changes are inconceivable several years ago. How can we efface the significant contribution the technology has made to our lives. .
Admittedly, war, violence and poverty still exist in the world. However , it is not technology itself bring them in. Actually, they are resulted from humanity's abusing of technology. Some people, in order to satisfy their ambitions and obtain the great interests, arbitrarily initiate wars or violent conflicts and recklessly use all kinds of weapons so as to win their rivals, which leaves numbers of injures, wounds and deads. The irredeemable consequences is due to the irresponsible leaders who provoke the wars and abuse the powerful weapons.
