A serial Killer is usually male, between the ages of 25-35, and he is usually white. This is only a little piece of the aspect of a typical serial killer. Throughout this paper the reader will discover much more of what a serial killer is and what types there are. The reader will see what a typical serial killer is considered, what a visionary killer is, what a mission-oriented killer is, what a thrill-oriented killer is, what a lust killer is, and how Mr. Harvey from Alice Sebold’s “The Lovely Bones” fits into the picture. Now to see what the typical serial killer would be.

Again a serial Killer is usually male, between the ages of 25-35, and he is usually white. His intellect ranges from below average to above average. He is from all walks of life, as are his victims. The majority of the time, he will kill within his own ethnic group. The ages of his victims will vary greatly, depending on his particular interests. He does not usually have any prior contact with his victims, and thus no particular hatred for them; though, the victims may be symbolic to him in some way. The first one would be the visionary motive type. Serial killers of this type are considered to be insane, even psychotic. It is not uncommon for this type of killer to report that they committed the crime because voices in their head told them to (Goldman 1). This is basically saying that the person is messed up in the head, possessed, or insane. They do not take blame on themselves but blame it on these almost supernatural causes. A good example of this type of killer would be Angel Maturino Resendiz. His attorney told the jury that Resendiz believed that the supreme being was instructing him to rape and kill Dr. Claudia Benton in 1998 because she was an evil force. He admitted to 9 killings of the same sort and was sentenced to death in Texas (Killer 2).

Who would have known Mr. Harvey would had been her murderer. This is just the typical profile of a serial murderer; there are a few different types.
