Subject: Improving Productivity and Creativity
Achieving and maintaining a high productivity level is crucial for any successful firm. Creativity is especially important to maintain at a high level in an architectural firm such as our own. Sometimes around midday the human body begins to fall short on energy and this translates into decreasing productivity and creativity. A great way to combat this midday slouch is with the addition of a nap room.
Nap rooms are not a new concept in the business world. The very respectable Wall Street Journal ran an article on the trend of nap room in the business world. At MacWorld Magazine, nap rooms have been installed since 1986 and they definitely must not be interfering with their work since 15 years later they are still in business. We have adequate space to put in a 4-person nap room. With the new conference room completed, the old one is of no use and, as I write this, it is being used for temporary storage. What better way to utilize that wasted space then by installing a productivity and creativity boosting nap room. If unfair use is your concern then I propose installing a sort of computerized time card system where each employee is given a unique personal code, which would open each “nap cubicle.” The computer would record the time and length of the nap. If a certain employee were found to be abusing the nap room privilege, then his or her code would be deactivated. This would eliminate any excessive and unfair use of the nap room. Finally using a 4-person nap room would be sufficient for our 12 architects, but just in case more people want to take naps than there are rooms, a sign up sheet can be put up.
