The framers of proposition 215 have admitted that they are using medical marijuana use as a stepping stone towards the free use of marijuana. Whether or not marijuana should be legal or not is not for me to say, it is a matter that the public needs to vote on. If the free use of marijuana is to be made legal in this state, then let the people vote for a proposition that is straight forward and clear in it's intents. Legalizing marijuana with proposition 215 is not only deceitful, but also dangerous. A straight forward proposition would include proper guidelines and safety regulations on how the free use of marijuana is to be controlled. Proposition 215 has no such guidelines. Marijuana use has the potential to cause serious problems, and without the proper regulations in place, these problems are sure to arise. Uncontrolled marijuana use would be as devastating as uncontrolled alcohol use. Alcohol is heavily controlled today and yet it still causes severe problems. Imagine the problems if there were no guidelines. Let the people of California decide for themselves whether they want to add free marijuana use to the list of potential problem causers, don't trick them into voting for it.

Science has ruled against the use of marijuana as a medicine. Major medical and health organizations have concluded that smoking marijuana is not safe nor effective as a medicine. Organizations against the use of marijuana include: The American Medical Association, the American Cancer Society, National Sclerosis Association, the American Glaucoma Association, American Academy of Opthalmology, National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institute of Dental Research, and the National Institute on Allergy and Infectious Diseases, as well as countless nationally recognized medical experts, researchers, and scientists. Rebecca S. Finley, PharmD, states "We really don't know how safe marijuana is for long-term use. Like alcohol, it's a mind-altering drug. It impairs people. We don't have enough scientific information at this point to make it available as a legal medication" (Lacayo).
