There is no age limit when it comes to gun violence in schools. It is now affecting elementary schools. “In Flint, Michigan, a six year old boy brought a pistol to school, then shot and killed a six year old girl” (Gray). These children were both attending the first grade. Concern for tougher laws on the purchasing of guns is now being looked at further. We live in a society today where six-year-old children go to school carrying loaded weapons. Where are the parents? They are obviously not being responsible adults, so now is the time for the government to stop the violence amongst minors. How many children hav

High School students, elementary school students and the parents of those students are bringing guns to school? “A father fired a gun in a busy High School parking lot at a student who had a fight with his sixteen year old son over a hat” (When Kids Kill). Irresponsible and unintelligent parents are now being considered the cause of school violence. Parents are not acting as good role models for their children. They are not showing children the correct way to act in school, but are displaying behaviors that give children the idea that guns are a way to settle problems.

Many parents still insist on having guns in the home. Parents seem to think that tragedies will not happen to them but in reality it does and more often the people are aware of. “Gunshot wounds to children ages sixteen and under have increased 300% in major urban areas since 1986” (Children and Firearms). Why do parents close their eyes and cover their ears when hearing or seeing gun violence, but when other subjects appear such as sex and drugs they are free to speak their mind? Sex and drugs compared to gun violence is more often the second killer since gun violence occurs ten years before the average sexual activity begins. Parents open your eyes and uncover your ears because the first mistake is yours. Do not cover the possibility of your child dying at your local school. Parents believe that because they live in a nice and safe neighborhood that it will not happen but Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris both lived in wealthy, safe and nice neighborhoods. T
