Safety Locks on Firearm Triggers
I am a gun owner, and there has recently been much talk of legislation requiring trigger locks on firearms, for the safety of your children or friends, but this is not an adequate safety device, this device will not prevent a dual trigger firearm from firing (Carl Donath 1999-2001). Such is yet another example of an interfering and controlling Government telling and forcing others to perform unsafe actions. I strongly do believe that anyone who wants to own a firearm must have a complete background check, and that there should be a waiting period before you can have your gun. In the state of Florida, there is a 6-month waiting period, while a complete background check is done, before you can own a firearm and the background check involves looking for mental status and any prior convictions (MyFlorida.com/Government/Firearm/Laws: Registered Member 2003). All gun legislation (not just locks) should be fundamentally based on firearm safety as specified by those deeply familiar with such weapons. Eventually (or possibly already has happened) a trigger lock requirement law will persuade someone to use such an unsafe device and through neg
On Trigger Locks: Carl Donath 1999-2001 So what do firearms experts recommend to keep children safe? Different options exist to fit different personal situations. Simplex-lock and electronic lockboxes provide both keyless childproof security and quick access to loaded guns, plus they can be bolted down for theft prevention. For a recreational gun, a cable lock through the barrel or a common padlock around a revolver's top strap (the bar above the cylinder) can keep it from being loaded or fired. Safes and security cabinets are available at many price points for those with multiple guns (Gun Facts, by Guy Smith, version 2.1, copyright 2000 by Guy Smith). ligence or ignorance cause someone's death (Carl Donath 1999-2001). I really do not want to fumble around, if there is an intruder in my home, trying to unlock my gun. There are other ways to keep your gun safe. Some may argue that in fairness, a trigger lock still is better than not locking the gun at all and it is moderately hard to trigger the firing mechanism while locked.
