Everybody in this world listens to all different kinds of music. You would not think that there are any kinds of music that could be harmful, but in fact, there are. As you read, you will find that the sweet sounds you listen to can be as harmful as smoking a cigarette or even more deadly. In my opinion, I feel that there are some kinds of music that has had something to do with the corruptness and violence of today’s society.

How can you be sure that the music your listening to can be good for you? How can you be sure that you can benefit from listening to it? In David Byrnes essay, “I Hate World Music”, he says, “For at its best, music truly is subversive and dangerous.”(Byrne 292).

Not only has heavy metal affected society, but rap music has had just about the same negative affects on people equally. When you either read or hear the lyrics of rap music, you hear subfects of gang violence, shootings, sex and very graphical for that matter. And the large amount of profanity and swearing send out the same message. At www.chuckiii.com/Reports/Music... a student by the name of Frederick, states in his essay titled, “How Rap Effects Socity”, he said, “Violent crimes increased by over 500 percent during the three decades ending in 1990.” I believe that no matter how rap artists feel about their music, they should take full responsibility for what they are doing to the public. Some rap artists are interested in sex and drugs. Some rap artist like Whitney Houston, Cam’ron, DMX, and Faith Evans have all been convicted of drug possession. There also comes to mind of a true story that evolved out of a society that had rap music involved. The movie is called “Boyz in the Hood”. This movie depicted the lives of African Americans living in a place in their words called a “hood”. Rap music was very prominent at that time just like it is today. Most of the people had a life that was similar to most rap songs. The shootings and the stabbings were displayed in real life scenarios. Sexual conduct was also very popular.
