Department of Child and Family Services

There are many issues in the American society today. Teen pregnancy, gun violence, teen suicide, drunk driving, and under age smoking are just a few of them. We think that one of the biggest issues in today's society is DCFS mistakes. DCFS stands for The Department of Child and Family Services. We think that this issue needs to be strongly enforced in our society today because many mistakes have already been made, many parents devastated and many kids tormented. Not many people know about DCFS and it is not the most common subject on the news. We need to get out their and speak up for the children that are the targets of many unsuccessful parents.

DCFS’s job is to target family’s whose children are neglected, abused or molested and put them in foster care. You might think that they are good people for helping these kids, but they really are not. That is why this subject is called DCFS mistakes. They are known to take children away from parents that really did not do anything wrong and should not have had their child taken away from them and put them in homes where kids suffer.

The history of DCFS begins during World War II. During the war, the Gestapo targeted families based on anonymous suggestions, usuall

Thanks to a lawsuit that led to a landmark consent decree, Alabama is rebuilding its entire child welfare system to emphasize keeping families together. 21 counties have completed the rebuilding process. In those counties, the foster care population is down by 33 percent, and an independent, court-appointed monitor has found that children are safer now than they were before the changes. The good news is that one of the leaders of the Alabama reform effort is now helping to plan and monitor court ordered reforms in Utah. The bad news is that instead of embracing these changes, DCFS keeps going to court to try to avoid them.

Experts say that the causes for DCFS mistakes are the same as what our group thought. Not enough research is done on the real parents of the DCFS children and definitely not enough research is done on the new foster parents that are taking the responsibility for the kids. The people who work for DCFS need to investigate the families deeper because some of the kids that are put in foster homes do not survive. They are being brutally abused, beaten and sometimes die. They do not deserve to be treated like that not only by their own parents but by their new foster guardians.

y from people who had some connections with them and took the kids away from the bad parents. Since the mid 1930’s, DCFS has improved its policies throughout the years. Before, they took kids away from families who spanked, slapped or yelled at their children. They later realized that they were making a big mistake. It was not until July 1, 2002 that they were permitted to seize citizens without a warrant. They are now authorized to impose sentences called “Safety Plans” or “Service Plans” on parents without any process of law.

The causes of all these mistakes that have been made, truly comes from all the people who work for DCFS. Enforcement on the investigation process of the new foster families needs to be greater. Because of their carelessness, many kids are put in the wrong families where they are tormented more then they were before. They need to find the right family that will love and support the children.
