Long before television, there was radio. People depended on the radio not only for news, but also for entertainment. Families would gather around this contraption listening to their favorite programs or waiting to see who was going to be elected president that year. About 20 years later another similar invention came along; it was called the television. Although the television and radio were alike in many ways, in some ways they were very different. The radio was a source of news and information, as was the television. People would sit for hours and listen to their favorite shows and news programs on the radio. On Saturday mornings, kids would race to the radio to catch the early morning kids show. For some people, it was a great way to get the whole family together. With televisions being pretty expensive to buy, the cost of radios went down. Therefore, more people had the means to purchase a radio, whereas only the more prominent families had televisions. To own a television at one time was quite a status symbol. Even today, technology has expanded much more on televisions. They come in many different sizes, from very small to extremely large, and the very large televisions are also very expensive. So, you may say that it's still a status symbol today to have a certain kind of television. The television and the radio have gone through many changes over the years, from size, cost, and colors, just to name a few. Both are different, and yet the same in so many ways.
