However there was a backlash on women from the male revolt. According to Susan Moller Okin in “Justice, Gender, and the Family,” women were often times considered vulnerable by marriage (Okin, p. 135). There was no prestige in the homemaker role in the family when in fact it demands much more than it seems and the opportunities for self-development was much less than that of a male. However as more and more males found it okay to be a stay-at-home dad there was a need for women to enter the work force to bring in an income into the family. But this was not quite simple. Employers saw women in the work force as making a surplus amount of money for the family and were never considered them to be the one providing the main income and therefore were not paid enough. This still made it difficult for women to totally enter the work force and provide enough money for the family. This meant men had to split the role of provider with the women and women split the role of homemaker with the men.

From this backlash, there was a need to change the ways of labor in the workplace, another effect of the male revolt. In Arlie Russell Hochschild’s “There’s No Place Like Work,” the result of the male revolt caused a mix up in the workplace and household. Traditionally, the workplace was impersonal and stressful whereas the home was a source of genuine value and contained personal connections. Nowadays, the workplace is used by many as an escape of stressful and inconvenience of the household (Hochschild, p. 3). Because more women have entered the work force to provide more money, the household is often times over looked and forgotten about. This is due to the fact that women have discovered the male secret that work can be an escape from the pressures of home (Hochschild, p. 4). Parents are working more not for the money or the pressure to, but to carve out a rewarding part of each day at the expense of less attention to children. This imbalance has made the household even more stressful and the only place to get away from it all is usually in the workplace, which just makes things worse.
