In the Play Hamlet, Claudius has a downfall throughout the play. His downfall is that he has to live with the fact that he killed king Hamlet After Claudius commits the deed of killing King Hamlet, he almost immediately marries Hamlet's wife, Queen Gertrude. Claudius also gains a new son, his former nephew Hamlet, the son of King Hamlet. At this point in the play, Hamlet does not know that Claudius has murdered his father, but he dislikes him anyway. In the play Macbeth the protagonist in the play has a very similar downfall to Hamlets. The protagonist in this play is Macbeth. In the beginning of this play Macbeth meets three witches. The three witches give Macbeth three prophesies. Two of which come true and one doesn’t . The on that didn’t come true was to become king of Scotland. So Macbeth makes this happen for himself by killing the king of Scotland who is King Duncan. Lady Macbeth was a contributor to his own downfall. Lady Macbeth contributed to Macbeth’s downfall when she first convinces him to kill Duncan. She tells him “If you do not do this for me u are not man enough and I will no longer love you”. She basically persuaded him into doing it, he wasn’t going to do it at first but she convinced him to. After he has killed Duncan he is in total shock and comes back to her with the bloody daggers still in his hands and covered in blood himself. She tells him "a little water will wash us of this deed." Actually the water won’t wash this deed away. Macbeth will still have the guilty conscience of killing the king. Macbeth does a good job of hiding this from the others. No one would have ever suspected him. Macbeth is now crowned king of Scotland. Banquo begins to suspect Macbeth for the murder of Duncan but he doesn’t tell anyone. After Macbeth gets away with the murder of Duncan he feels he can get away with anything.
