Sophocles Formula

an epic play was created by a Greek playwright named Sophocles, that play known as Oedipus Rex, or Oedipus the King has set the standard for the formula of a Tragedy. By just putting those words into a book, it is hard to grasp the emotional feelings emitting from the characters. But, reading the play for yourself or in a group is a different experience that cannot be described, imagination and creativity takes place when you read.              Inside a book it is easier for one to notice the references to sight and blindness. However, it is hard to believe that sight and blindness really are metaphors at all. In the movie, the characters speak and they show the clear images of the comparison between light and darkness. It is by noticing these things that one realizes that light versus darkness are a common metaphor for knowledge versus ignorance. "I see the light", "The Light is before me" are common sayings that are part of ancient Greek language. When reading the book, it is hard to grasp this concept, but when the movie is shown one is able to truly understand what they were talking about. .
By getting a good image of Oedipus, Tiresias and Creon, it was easy to understand their place in the metaphor of darkness and light. Oedipus is famed for his clear-sightedness and quick wit, but he discovers that he has been blind to the truth for many years, and then he blinds himself so as not to have to look on his own children/siblings. Tiresias, in reality is in fact blind, but because of Tiresia's visions he sees more than most. Another difference between the texts to the movie was the time that passed. It seemed that in the text the story took place over a long period of time, several days, even weeks.
