Inner Strength

According to Webster’s Dictionary, the word strength means the power of exerting muscular force. For myself, strength is overcoming obstacles when others told you it couldn’t be done. Strength is to wake up every morning and think, not what could I have done if I gotten a better life, but what can I do with the life I have received.

Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the U.S., said: “ We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers.” Every one dreams, but it takes strength to make those dreams come true. Often, a lot of people do not try in fear of failure. The person with strength doesn’t worry about failue; it doesn’t exist, because if you truly try it is not failure.

Anyone can be strong, it can be the retarded person at school or the gold medallist at running. Strength doesn’t have a description when it comes to a person. Anyone can posse the quality, it just takes will power to want to achieve a victory in life.

First, strength is being able to overcome obstacles. For example, there was this girl who had a learning disability. Her mom watched her play basketball everyday. She ran circles around the other kids and managed to shoot jump shots just over their heads into the net. The boys always

Through, high school she led her team every week into victory. Nevertheless, one day her mom saw her sitting in the grass crying. “What is wrong?” her mom asked. She told her mom that the coach told her she was too short, being only 5 foot 5 inches tall, and she would never get to play for a top rank team, so she should stop dreaming. Her mom told her, ”Remember if the dream is big enough, the facts don’t matter.”

tried to stop her, but no one could. Sometimes she would play all night, until dark dribbling, over and over again. One day her mom asked her why do you practice so much? She turned her head and said,” I want to go to college. My dad was not able to go. The only way I’ll get to go is if I get a scholarship. I like basketball, so I decided if I were good enough, I would get a full scholarship. If I am going to play college basketball, I want to be the best. My dad told me if the dream was big enough, the facts don’t matter.”

Another factor is that your biggest weakness can become your biggest strength. Take, for instance the story of a ten-year old boy who decided to study judo despite that he had lost his left arm in a devastating car accident.

Soon after the match resumed, his opponent made a critical mistake and let his guard down. The boy used his one move and he won the championship match.

Her mother told her, despite the brace you can do whatever you want to in life as long as you have the faith, persistence, strength, and indomitable spirit.

This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For awhile, the boy appeared to be over matched. Concerned that the boy would get hurt, the referee called a time-out.
