In His Steps Book Review

In His Steps by Charles M. Sheldon is an over all good read, it asks the reader: What would Jesus do? By introducing the phrase ‘What would Jesus do?’ Sheldon asks the reader to reexamine their life. Sheldon has his characters deal with too big dilemmas and not any everyday ones. Sheldon through introducing the phrase ‘What would Jesus do?’ was able to get the reader to rely more on the Holy Spirit and less on themselves.

When Charles Sheldon introduced the phrase ‘What would Jesus do?’ he was able to get the reader to look closer at their own life as to how they can fix it. Through the reexamination of the church in the story the reader begins to reexamine themselves. Then the pastor asks the congregation to for one year ask themselves what would Jesus do before they acted on something. This felt as if the preacher in the book was talking directly to the reader. By doing this Sheldon was able to ask the audience if to reexamine their lives and see what they can do to be more like their savior Jesus. By introducing this great question Charles Sheldon started a fad and a great self awakening. Self awakening is when a person realizes that they need to look at

Through out In His Steps Charles Sheldon makes plenty of 3life situations as to how to follow in Jesus’ footsteps. There is one problem with his examples, Sheldon only gives examples as how to follow god with the big decisions in life and very rarely with little everyday ones. By doing this Charles makes his inspirational story of following Jesus just another impossible task when really it isn’t that hard as he makes it seems. It is very hard to draw a tree when you only have been shown how to draw the trunk and not the leaves. The little things in life can e just as hard as the big ones and it would have been great if Sheldon would’ve exemplified the a little more. "I have decided that the Sunday morning edition of the NEWS shall be discontinued after next Sunday's issue. I shall state in that issue my reasons for discontinuing. In order to make up to the subscribers the amount of reading matter they may suppose themselves entitled to, we can issue a double number on Saturday, as is done by many evening papers that make no attempt at a Sunday edition.”(Sheldon, Chapter 4) When Norman decided to cut the Sunday paper this was not an ordinary situation that any normal person would encounter. It is a little far fetched but the devotion that it shows is wonderful. It would be so hard for someone in real life to make these kinds of decisions let alone be able to continue and make more. “What business of his was it? If he saw a man entering his neighbor's house to steal, would it not be his duty to inform the officers of the law? Was a railroad company such a different thing? Was it under a different rule of conduct, so that it could rob the public and defy law and be undisturbed because it was such a great organization? What would Jesus do? Then there was his family. Of course, if he took any steps to inform the commission it would mean the loss of his position.”(Sheldon, Chapter 5) This is just another
