Islam is the youngest of the many religions of the world. The Arabic word “Islam” means the submission or surrender of one’s will to the only true god worthy of worship, “Allah”, and anyone who does so is termed a “Muslim.” This word also implies “peace”, which is the natural consequence of total submission to the will of Allah. Islam is one of the three major religions, along with Christianity and Judaism. Islam is a monotheistic religion and they believe in only one God, just like the religions of Christianity and Judaism, which all have the same god in these three religions. To answer the question of how the historical relationship between Islam and the government shaped the present day relationship between Islam and the government, one would have to consider the historical part first. The government, when it was first established, was fine with everything how it was, and so were the people. Everyone abided by the rules said to be by the almighty God. But now-a-days, the Muslims are wanting a newer, more advanced government then what they have, but the government says the rules can not be changed because of them being said by the almighty. What is known of now, Islam and their government are not on good terms. The government is saying that if one believes in the Koran and if they believe that the Koran is a thorough book which states how every human activity should be done and states the way he/she should conduct himself/herself in every sphere of life, then they are being hypocrites to remain contented with those claims. They should follow the logical conclusion and they should perform the Shariah law and make it the only law valid for the country. Shariah law cannot be exercised or forced upon people. As far as their normal life is concerned, they are not living a true Muslim way. In some areas, the Muslims that are free to practice Islam, they still can’t practice it to it’s full extent. Besides that, how can they be expected to practice something that they are being forced to practice. In these areas is where there is turmoil between the religion and government. The Muslims are upset because they don’t believe they need a law to tell them to pray five times a day and to behave honestly. Shariah is not necessarily needed there because there is no use for them since Islam is their religion anyway and they do not need someone telling them how to practice their own religion.
