Six Year Strategic Plan

The strategic management process is comprised of three stages that are all very distinct. The first is a stage in which you form your overall plan. At Brewton-Parker they have defined their direction and mission for the future. The second part of the plan is the implementation phase of the strategy that we have just formed. The plan that has been implemented at Brewton-Parker is a six-year plan. The last part of the strategic planning process is the evaluation phase in which you review your initial objectives and find out how your plan is working.

The direction in which BPC is currently heading is to continue offering an undergraduate education that is built on a foundation of Christian faith. They are focused on providing an environment here on campus that is intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually stimulating to each student. The vision for BPC “will be a distinctive community of learners (BPC, 3).” The strategy to get there will be to have strong academic standards, provide a good Christian influenced environment in which to learn, and to give each student the best chance to succeed.

Brewton Parker has many opportunities as well as threats

Liabilities and Net assets were also affected by the construction of the student activity center. The liabilities have increased for Brewton-Parker as expected due to the newly acquired faculty. Total liabilities increased by 3,610,928 dollars from 2001 to 2002. The primary increases are in notes and bond payable to financial institutions and notes payable to the Georgia Baptist Institution. The total increase confirmed for the total amount is 3,483,407 dollars payable.

Instructor development is a practice that takes place at all schools of higher learning. Theses courses give instructors new techniques of relating to students and better prepare them on new strategies in all areas of the academic programs offered. The course instructors go to conferences that are centered on their needs. The conferences are comprised of many teachers and they will interact with each other to share and learn new ideas. BrewtonParker will provide a budget to each department in order for them to decide which ways to most effectively use their funds in advancing their knowledge.

The final goal of the six year strategic plan is to further the Christian distinctiveness of Brewton-Parker. The presence of Christian faith is already very prevalent on the Brewton-parker campus. In continuing the Christian role in learning there will be campus wide initiation of a dialogue about the proper role of faith and learning led by the president and other various committees (BPC, 35). This action will be taken each year to ensure the presence of Christ in the campus. This plan will be reviewed through survey given to students as well as teachers. Then upon reviewing surveys there will be a decision made as to whether more possible action should be taken or possibly less. There will be a clearly defined line as to how much is needed by the end of the six-year plan.

The primary goal of BPC for the next six years is to secure its financial stability. In previous years BPC has had to pay off a very large debt. The debt, caused by false information in the financial aid department, has finally been paid off. However, the debt caused a lot of instability with the institutions financial position. Now the goal is to restore the stability and prevent any recurrences of this in the future. The plan is to raise two million dollars in gifts for the next six years (BPC, 11). The division of College Advancement will be in charge of the fund raising for BPC. They will raise 1.4 million each year through local individuals, churches, and businesses (BPC, 11). There will also be a local fundraiser that will target raising one hundred thousand dollars toward the annual goal. The remainder of the expected donations will come from proposals to churches and businesses. The Georgia Baptist Convention is also expected to make sizeable contributions to the school as well.

The six-year plan is built on six long-term objectives. Each of the objectives has a certain importance to the overall plan. Each objective will impact the overall plan of building a better school and a more secure financial standing.

Another goal established for the six-year plan is to increase academic quality. The more the academic programs improve will mean the schools reputation will also improve. A good college that is recognized on a national scale for academic excellence will attract good students to earn a degree. The plan to achieve academic betterment will be done so through additional instructor development, increased learning tools, increased technology in learning environment, and more instructors with terminal degrees (BPC, 35). Some instructors at BPC have bee around for a while and the methods of teaching have remained unchanged as well. In today’s information boom there are becoming more ways to instruct students. The use of computers has become a very popular trend in learning techniques. BPC is coming along with on-line classes, these courses make it possible f
