Temples Of Mesopotamia, Egypt, And Mexico

The pyramids that have made Egypt so famous are truly one of the world's greatest architectural achievements. The ancient Greeks considered the pyramids of Egypt one of the seven greatest wonders of the world, and today they are the only one that are still standing. The Pyramids of Egypt are large structures with four triangular sides that meet in a point at the top, directly over the center of the pyramid’s square base. Ancient peoples in several parts of the world built pyramids, but the Egyptians constructed the biggest and most famous ones. The first tombs of the pharaohs were large, unimpressive, bunker affairs called mastabas. They were made from sun dried mud brick and most have long since crumbled to dust. This all changed around 2630 BC with the erection of the step pyramid. It was made for the pharaoh, Djoser and began as a normal mastaba, but was subsequently enlarged by adding one mastaba on top of another until it consisted of six terraces some 200ft (60 meters) high. The surface was originally encased in smooth white limestone which must have caught the sun light and reflected its rays. From there they evolved into the pointed triangular temples we hear the most of today

Unlike the other two pyramids, these pyramids are located on the other side of the world. They also differ in the fact the temples where built by tribes, so there are many different variation. For now I will concentrate on the temples of the Mayans. These temples were made from limestone. The pyramids of Teotihuacan rise as high as twenty-story buildings, above the central Mexican highlands with a grandeur and mystery that stirs the imagination and inspires the soul. As a civil engineer, I have often been intrigued by the surveying and construction skills of so-called primitive societies; this site is truly exceptional. All of the buildings are aligned with the stars and the solar system from precise survey points in the nearby mountain range, using an advanced understanding of mathematics, geometry and astronomy.
