Affirmative Action
This is my persuasive paper for my English 112 class; the subject that my group and I chose to do is affirmative action. The decision to do this topic was an arbitrary choice and frankly I was not happy with it. As I had no choice to argue the matter I began compiling information and facts to start writing these series of papers required of this class. For this persuasive paper I am choosing to focus on affirmative action in schools, both public and private. I will be evaluating the positives and negatives of enforcing affirmative action laws in schools, affirmative action laws concerning extra-curricular activities, and why we need affirmative action in schools. This paper will not only provide accurate facts concerning affirmative action but will also influence your views in the direction that I choose. The approach that I am taking is that affirmative action needs to be enforced in order for the American society to evolve in to an as equal living place as possible. References………………………………………………………………….9 Surely there is something wrong with this scenario. Is it enough to simply chide the offending runner, change the rule book, and then begin the race with one runner half way through the race? By advancing the runner ahead, would we be corrupting the idea of the one hundred yard dash? These questions yield only one answer. No. the race has already been tainted. It is our duty to somehow reconstruct the situation so that fairness can again exist in the event. At the very least we should allow the injured runner time to heal and then advance him fifty yards ahead to be even with his competition. Otherwise one runner’s advantage over the other will be unjust and unfair to everyone concerned in the activity. Persuasion.………………………………………………………………….7 “…with liberty and justice for all.” Why is this our pledge of allegiance, if our country still condones the notion of segregation, perhaps in minute but still very apparent form. With various laws and referendums in congress still being passed, the government is obviously taking strides to improve our countries past history of racism and prejudice against minorities, disabled and elderly. While these steps might be enough for some people I see them as shallow attempts to ease the tension rather then solve the problem entirely. The government and its citizens are ultimately responsible for the welfare of our society.
