Types Of Mangagers

There are many different aspects of managers these days. Depending on the business they work for and how their management skills are put to use, managers are very different. Two examples of this are two mangers I interviewed, Kansas Lally and Mike Merrit. They both had two totally diverse styles of management.

Mike merit is a store manager of Giant Foods, in Bel Air Maryland store #158. Kansas Lally is a manger of Chili’s Restaurant Inc. in Bel Air, Maryland. Kansas and Mike are both managers and both very different.

Kansas Lally started out working for Chili’s restaurant as a hostess when she was seventeen years of age. She pursued this position for a part time job while she was in high school. Hostess was the only position that would be available to her due to the age requirements. Once there Kansas went through the proper training to become a waitress. Kansas said “I love people” talking to new people all the time is exciting and makes the time go by faster. If you were a courteous waitress and friendly most likely you would receive a good tip from the table you just served.

Management recognized Kansas as a hard worker and promoted her as head server. Kansas would considerably do the same work, b


“Management was a big move for me, but I was prepared since I already knew how a restaurant ran due to my past experience. I was not going to let the position go to my head everyone is a team at Chili’s I could not do this job by myself, I treat people as if I would like to be treated.” The restaurant runs it’s self all I do is confront a problem if we have one any other time I am just part of the team. At no time would I ever talk down to an employee. I have been in all of their positions I know what a burden it can be sometimes, that is the benefit of being with this company so long. In Kansas aspect work should be a fun place, to be. Nobody wants to keep dragging to work day after day. Trust is something you must have with your employee you must trust them and they have to trust you. Again Kansas cuts down on team work; team work is a must in a business such as this one. Kansas would most likely be a theory Y manager, people come first satisfaction is a must, and everyone is equal.

Managers today need to be very versatile they need to see a situation and be able to react in the best way possible. These two managers show ways that are effective and some ways that are not. This goes to show how tough management can be on an individual and how much preparation goes into becoming one.
