Area of Study - Changing Perspective Speech
Changing perspectives, is an interesting phrase to define. There’s just so much to it. Obviously, to change perspective, is to look at something in one way, and it could be anything at all…and then look at it in another way, meaning you change your viewpoint, or perspective. It sounds relatively simple, until you realise that changing perspectives relates to just about everything that has ever happened, and will ever happen. That it’s a constant, and involves everything you can see, touch, even imagine. There are many, many different reasons for changing perspective, you could be affected intellectually by this little talk for instance, it could set you thinking, or show you a different outlook. And you may find that it fits what you believe more accurately, or makes more sense, than what you originally believed. And so your perspective has been changed! But that’s only intellectually, thinking about things. There could be an emotional, financial, spiritual, or false change of perspective. A change of perspective, can be provoked by anything, about anything, any they often cause another change of perspective on something else, creating chain reactions, and what seems like an endless cycle.
The internet article “It’s my Party and I’ll bomb if I want to” from www.eel.nu deals with modern day events, specifically, America’s war on Iraq. It’s written from the viewpoint of an American, who has forever been preaching peace and goodwill, until he witnesses a speech by Colin Powell, and is stricken with fear. His perspective changes in one swift movement, from anti, to pro war. However, in a broader view of the article, this perspective is false. In actuality, the article is written in a humorous, sarcastic, and almost offensive fashion (as most articles from eel.nu are). As the article continues, the false viewpoint expressed by the author becomes paranoid to the point of being ridiculous, giving loose, and even made up evidence to uphold the idea that Iraqis in general, are evil, and want to kill us all. The author abuses his previous viewpoints and the viewpoints of others, while sarcastically pushing forward the perspective of Colin Powell, while at the same time, abusing Mr Powells, through the sarcasm. Despite it’s offensiveness, it’s a relatively clever article. But yet again, that’s just my perspective. The first, is a Valentine’s Day comic, produced by an artist known as Fuzzy Demon. Fuzzy Demon hails from the internet, and you can find his work at fuzzydemon.deviantart.com. The change is relatively dramatic in the second scene, it’s an urban background, dull grays and blood on the ground under the corpse of a man, pierced with an arrow. It’s a sudden change, and forces us to put the fairy tale world back into perspective. Change can often hit hard, and reveal truths that you didn’t really want to think about.
