Erik Eriksons theories

Erik Erikson's theory is eight stages of human development.

Erik Erikson had theories like others, about the socialization process. His theory was that people go through 8 stages throughout there life.

Stage one is infancy. Which is at the age of 0 to 1 in a childs life. The crisis is trust verses mistrust. The first year of a childs life, they depend on others for food, such as the mothers milk. They depend on warmth, like a crib warm clothes. They depend on affection also. The child must trust its parents or a caregiver for providing these items for them. If the child's needs are met by parents, infants will begin to develop an attachment with their parent. They will also trust their enviroment as well. If these items are not met, the child will have distrust against their parent and towards people in general. Maybe towards themselves as well.

Stage two is toddler. Which is from age 1 to 2. The crisis is independence verse doubt. Toddlers will learn to do things for themselves. Learn to walk, talk, use the potty seat or toliet. Their self confidence starts to begin at this point. If the child's parent is positive about this and encourage their child to do these things and tell them its okay when they make mistak

Stage five Adolescence, which is from age 12 to 18. The crisis is identity verse role confusion. This stage is where the child ask to themself "who am I?" They answer this question by asking themselves did I develop a basic sense of trust? Am I strong at being independent, competence, and control in my life/ Adolescents who successfully dealt with earlier conflicts are ready for figuring out their "Identity Crisis". If an adolescent solves this conflict successfully, they will come out of this stage with a strong sence of knowning their identity, and ready to plan for the future. If they don't, they will sink into confusion and won't be able to make decisions and choices on their own. Especially about vocation, sexual orientation, and their role in life.

es the child will become more confident. Which will help with future situations that will require them to chose or have independence. If a parent is too overprotective, by dissaproving or getting too worried about the child falling the child may become ashamed of themself or of their behavior.

Stage six becoming a young adult (young adulthood). Which is from age 19 to age 40. Crisis is intimacy verses isolation. The most important events that occur in this stage
