As a supporter of marijuana I take on the burden of proof to convince you why the United Stated of America should change their status quo and decriminalize marijuana consumers and growers. There are often depicted stereotypes that marijuana users are hippies, teenage misfits, school dropouts, anti-social, and stupid (to name a few). The American public has also distorted the facts on marijuana. The American government has hidden the reality about marijuana and it is time for this to stop. It’s time for the American public to hear the other side of the marijuana debate for once. It’s time for the American government to pull its ugly head out of the sand and listen to many doctors and scientists who have proof that marijuana is much safer than reported in the past. It’s time for the American government to realize that there are millions and millions of marijuana growers and consumers nationwide.
There are so many reasons for legalization other than just the medical capabilities, which have not yet been fully explored because of bans. The illegal running of marijuana would be halted instantly. All of the dealers would be put out of business. Most of the dealers have double income because their pro
One problem that could be addressed is how the government would make money if people could get their hands on seeds. People have found ways to sterilize plants. This is where none of the seeds will grow ever. Also, if the government would regulate it just as alcohol where by it is illegal to produce it for a profit but not for personal consumption. The government could put a limit on how much a household could grow. This is already in place in Alaska where it is legal to grow ten plants at a time and it is also legal to possess up to one ounce at a time.
When marijuana is legalized I feel that there needs to be strict regulation on it such as with alcohol and tobacco. It would be taxed just as alcohol, which would create more revenue for the government. With legalization would also come less crowded courts. This would allow for more time in prosecuting large criminals. Court costs would lower. Police would have more time to spend on the enforcement of serious laws. As Dennis Richards puts it in his book Chemical Dependency, “The appropriate standard in deciding if a drug should be made legal for adults ought to be whether it is more likely than alcohol to cause harm to an innocent party. If not, banning it cannot be justified while alcohol remains legal… Small dealers could dell it legally, but it would be regulated.” I agree completely with this. When marijuana is put to this test, it passes with
