Comparison Essay - Books and Movies

There has never been a more popular art form that gives people such intellectually satisfying experience than literature and motion pictures do. These two have become the dominant industries in art business, frequently each other's opponent when it comes to deciding whether books or movies are the better art. Finding a definite answer to this continuing debate is not merely as worthwhile as looking for reasons to support either side. As far as my subjectivity and I are concerned, movies have always been more thrilling adventures than books. .
Films are all about experiences "those that can touch various senses. Motion pictures can arouse such immediate response from spectators, which is something beyond all other art forms' capability. The earliest production of motion picture (Arrival of a Train by the Lumiere Brothers) captured viewers' instant attention from its very first few seconds, along with their awe, amazement and wonder, which got them all taken aback standing on their feet. One never reads a book and is jumpscared from his/her seat. Shortly after the silent film era came the sound film era. Even without dialogues like in literature, early talking pictures accompanied by sound told stories with as much thrill and captivation. George Melies's short feature films in particular were brilliant sound-on films, playing simply classic theatrical sound effects but successfully creating suspensions and climax as the stories went. Even in modern days, movies that are only dubbed with sound effects and music still provide the audience enthralling stories. One such production, The Artist (2011), even became an Academy-award motion picture. Unlike words, moving images and sound keep the audience constantly engaged in the story. Most people read from a detached view that is examining the narrator's perspective. But movies touch immediately to people's senses. Watching the movie Fury (2014), audience is engaged in the WWII battlefields.
