Skiing the Pirin Glacier

Skiing on the Pirin glacier, considered by many people, is the hardest of the ski skills. People think that it requires the ultimate ski knowledge that only those who were born on the mountain have. This is not true. It is enough to be an ordinary skier. However, courage is necessary for skiing on the Pirin glacier. The skier has to have a custom landing gear down the icy track and of course he has to talk about this type of skiing with people who have experience. .
In the Balkans, in Europe, the only glacier is situated on Pirin mountains between Bulgaria and Greece. Glacier sky roads descend from 3,600 meters above sea level to about 2,000 meters, while classical sky roads descend below 2,000 and they are placed in the forest. These are two types of skiing, and every skier should have it in mind before he starts skiing from the top of the Pirin mountain. Before boarding the gondola in the town of Bansko in Bulgaria, which leads to the glacier, it is important to sharpen the edges of the ski. At the top of the glacier, a skier cannot climb without the correct shoes, suits, and helmets. The skier cannot forget gloves and a balaclava, a hat which goes under the helmet. All of the equipment, except skis, which go next to the gondola, should be put on before entering the cabin because the cabin is quite small. The skier can create inconvenience to other skiers if he changes clothes while driving in the gondola. When he gets to the top of the glacier, if the weather is clear, the skier can see an impressive sight through the window of the gondola. However, when the skier arrives on top of the mountain the wind of at least 20 meters per second will be waiting for him, which means that the skier will have to quickly go downhill. For skiing on the ice, it is important that support of the body is always forward. If the skier has not skied on ice for a long time, regardless of when he learn this technique, the skier may go too fast.
