S. E. Hinton's The Outsiders

             Hinton, narrates the story of Ponyboy Curtis, a teenager whose world has been turns upside down. The novel was written in first person by the fictitious main character who is only 14 years old. When Ponyboy is introduced to the novel his parents have already died in a car accident and he's being raised by his brothers two Darrel and SodaPop(Hinton 3). Because of his vulnerability he enjoyed a gang. He felt protected and treat the Greaser's as his second family. He was the youngest "Greaser"; gang of poor teenagers who live in the east side of the town in the southwestern part of the United States. The Greaser's had conflict with the "Socs"; gang of rich teenagers who live in the west side of the town. Ponyboy struggle because of the conflict the between the two gangs and the fact that his family didn't accepted the idea of him enjoying the Greaser's.Throughout the story Ponyboy experiment a mix of feelings such as confusion, proud and guilty as a result of wrong and good decisions he made. .
             Even thought since the beginning of the story Ponyboy had loosed his parents he looked like a regular teenager who had straight A's at school, went to movies and had fun. The perspective about the main character changes when he started sharing his thoughts (Hinton 2). He seems upset and frustrated about the conflict the Greaser and the Soc had because it affected him emotionally and physically.However he had loyalty for the Greaser's and he would never leave this gang for anything in the world. Ponyboy was just an innocent teen when the story begins and he had been wrongly influence by the Greaser's. That's what lead tragedies in the story. As the story goes we can see that the behavior of Ponyboy change an at the end it turns to a different person more mature.
             The decisions he made wasn't always right, such as when bob dies.Ponyboy and Johnny run away. He didn't say any to the police or his family because he was scared of what could happen.
