Intellectual Property Laws and the Internet

It is with no doubts that the internet has brought a revolution in the storage as well as the sharing of information. However, this has posed a great challenge to the protection of intellectual property as it is becoming difficult to use the traditional laws guiding the use of it. Intellectual property refers to any authentic creative work that takes a tangible form that is protected by the law (Bessen, & Maskin 2004). .
             Abstract.
Intellectual property involves industrial designs, scientific discoveries, trademarks, commercial names, designations, artistic, literary and scientific work, as well as others. This paper explores how the enactment of corporate policy by the individual organization will help in the protection of intellectual property rights.
             Discussion.
To emphasize the need to have corporate policies, I will use a hypothetical scenario of the RIAA standing for the Recording Industry Association of America and how its efforts to protect the music as a work of art may cause damage to the organization computers. For example, lets say that an individual uses the organization computer to download songs from the internet. The RIAA notices this act and decides to do a follow-up. They will first trace the IP address and in the process, they may come to learn that the computer in question is a super-node that is used in downloading many songs every day. They then decide to undertake the super-node. The only solution available is to hacking into the super-node's network. In the process, numerous computers within your organization are down. The question of whether it is right for the RIAA to do so is still debatable, but the fact is that the organization will end up losing various important data. Thus, as the RIAA and other agencies that protect the use of the intellectual property have a role to play, so do all the individuals that make use of computers. There are certain misconceptions that come with the availability of information on the internet.
