Religion is sense of human relationship with forces beyond nature. During the history human had a need to have relations with something they believed and could support protect them. In the Vodun religion it is believed that man and the cosmos are made of 2 things. They are said to be half supernatural, half material. This theory is represented in the Vodun cross it shows how man and cosmos reflect each other in the mirror. Vodun functions are to help people endure the trials and tribulations of daily life like starvation, disease, and death, and to celebrate life. The religion provides teachings and practices about morality and spirituality to assist its devotees in evolving their consciousness. Vodun adepts are well known for their energy mastery and their expertise with spirits, plants and minerals. .
Vodun can be directly traced to the West African Yoruba people in 18-19 century in Dahomey, this country occupied parts of today's Togo, Benin and Nigeria. Slaves from Africa who were shipped by force brought Vodun to Haiti and other islands in the West Indies. In South America there are similar religions to Vodun which are called: Umbanda, Qimbanda and Candomble. Today we have two virtually unrelated forms of religion: Vodun and Voodoo. Vodun is an actual religion which is practiced by about 60 million people in Haiti, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Dominican Republic and USA. Voodoo is evil and imaginary religion, it has been created for Hollywood movies and does not exist in reality. Slaves from Africa were baptized into the Catholic Church in Haiti, but slaves massively followed Vodun religion and practiced this in secret.
