Grapes of Wrath

The Grapes of Wrath tells a story about the Joad family in hardship. The family suffered cruelty by migrant laborers during the Great Depression. Like the Joad family, many lower-class farmer families were forced to leave their homes while banks maximize their profits off the farm. First, the family suffered the wrath of the Dust Bowl that ruined their crops, and then making no money forcing them to get rid of their farm. Tom and the Joad family heard that there were good jobs in California, so they decided to go find jobs there. Right when they were on their way to California, the grandpa dies. Then they met another family and traveled with them. Their car breaks down on the way to California. They find a man that came from California saying that there was no jobs there and that the flyers were fake. The Joads reached California, and the first person they talked to was a police officer. He seems like he was discriminating against them due to the fact that they were hicks. They went into a bakery and wanted to buy some food but the saleslady was mean to them and didn't want to sell them food. The owner soon told her to give it to them for a cheap price and then the saleslady began to feel sorry for the family and sold the food to them. At the first camp, where everyone lived in very small and dirty shacks, the grandma becomes sick. They had food but no one else in the camp did. They didn't share the food with the hungry children because they had to save their food for later use. Then the police forced them out of the camp. Tom wouldn't leave because someone in the family was sick. The police tries to shoot the guy but instead shot an old lady instead. It didn't seem like they cared that they shot the lady. At the next camp where the Joads stay on their search for work, they heard about government camp where the residents do not face harassment by police officers and have access to baths and toilets.
