Abortion:pro choice
For decades, abortion has been one of the most controversial issues in society. Debates are held about it, and those campaigning to be elected to an office have voiced their opinions. Everyone who has chosen their position sticks firmly to it. Abortion was legalized in 1970 after the ruling of Roe vs. Wade, the court battle that had the country in a fit. The court ultimately ruled that it was a woman’s choice because it was her body. During the trial, the court gave up trying to define the exact moment when a new life is formed. They decided that it was up to everyone to decide for themselves. Margaret Sanger was one of the founders of Planned Parenthood. This establishment performs abortions. During and after Roe vs. Wade, many of the Planned Parent facilities were attacked. Fire bombs were thrown and protests were held. Women entering the clinics would be yelled at and called names. Every woman has the right to make her own decisions. So many women died in unprofessional abortions before they were legalized. If abortions ever became illegal again, as some people wish they would, more women would die or have severe consequences. Opposing Viewpoint :Pro-Life
It has been determined that although women are the biggest supporters, men also stand up for pro-choice. Those who fight abortion are typically from small towns, deeply religious, or are not doing well financially. People from bigger cities with at least a high school education and a decent income are much more tolerant. It can only be assumed that this is because some people are just more educated about such things, or are more religiously zealous. One woman who was extremely religious and who was always seen rallying outside the local abortion clinic entered one day. She found herself in a tight situation and asked to have an abortion. She later told the nurse that it was, ‘’different for her than for all of the other women ’’(Terkel 84). It all depends on the situation. woman’s liberal movement, not backwards. Some say that if the woman chose to have sex, and thought she was ready, then she should be ready to have a baby and she should be prepared to take care of it. If a woman is raped, however, she had no choice. It is very likely that she was not prepared to have a child. She should not have to live with a constant reminder of what happened to her. To chose abortion is a right, one that should not be taken away. adoption, abortion may be the easiest decision (Terkel 88). Even women who are financially able to have a child have abortions. The woman may not yet be emotionally ready, or not ready for the change it would bring to a relationship. No birth control is 100% effective, so, if a woman becomes pregnant while on any form of birth control, she may decide to abort the fetus. There are numerous reasons why abortion would be preferred by the mother. One of the top reasons would be if she were raped or molested by someone within her family. That would be a completely undesirable situation in which to have a baby. Another reason to have an abortion would be if the fetus was grossly deformed, mentally or physically. If the child could never lead any semblance of a normal life, it would be cruel to bring them into the world. Some women choose abortion because it seems like the lesser of the evils. If there is no way that they could keep the baby, and they couldn’t bear to give it
