How much more of taxpayers must spend to make these young teenager’s lives such that they can become model citizens when they returned to the society. Canadian jails are too soft compared to other countries such as Iran. For example, the prisoners can have computers, television, radio…etc in the jail. This is an enjoyment not a punishment. Therefore, the government should let the young offender do the community service instead of jail penalty. Moreover, when the young adults commit the crime, they often do not realize the consequences behind their actions. Therefore, it would be a harsh penalty for the young adults sitting in the jail. In addition, the young adults might have a chance to start a new life if they are sentenced to do the compulsory community service. Thus, the compulsory community service is the most economical, humanely and effective way to deal with young offenders when they commit the property crimes.

The jail penalty is a harsh punishment in mentally and physically way for the youth. First, the young adults are not mature enough to realize their crimes and they are easily to be i

nfluenced from the people and the environment around them. They might meet different people committing different types of crime and obtain their skills. Therefore, it is dangerous to placed these young adults with the violent criminals. Otherwise, they might become even worse when they come out of the jail. Before, they were probably just did some property crimes such as burglary, theft or motor vehicle theft. However, when they come out, they might start robbery and murder. Nowadays, there are lots of gangs going on in the jail now and the young offenders can get threatened, beat up or even killed. Therefore, if they put into the jail, they might have greater chance to be hurt mentally and physically. They might end up seeing a psychologist which means it will bring even more social problems to the society.

Jail should design for the more violent criminals not every criminal. It is not economical. For instance, if every young offenders are sentencing to jail for a standard sentence of sixty or ninety days, then who is going to pay the cost of building extra cells, foods, security guards and toiletries? The taxpayers’s hard earn money. Therefore, by putting every young offender into the jail is a waste of taxpayer’s money. Instead of wasting the money, the young adults should do the community service
