In the world today their are more than 400 different types of sharks swimming in the ocean. Also, 50 percent of sharks are less than one meter long. Sharks and normal fish are very different although the live in the same environment. Sharks, like rays, have their body structure all made of cartilage unlike the many other different types of fish in the sea. This material helps sharks stay lightweight and not sink to the bottom its also helpful because they don’t need an air bladder like all the other fish. A Sharks skin texture is different from fish, it has like a smooth leathery feeling. Their skin is like that so they could channel water over the shark’s body(Shark-info.com)
Sharks also have a unique sense of direction. Unlike fish sharks use their back tail as a propeller it swings its tail back a
Sharks also have a very unique jaw structure, which makes their mouth great weapons. In most animals their jaw moves freely and the upper jaw is firm. With sharks the upper jaw is below the skull, however it can be detached when the shark is attacking its prey. Sharks do however breath like fish but taking dissolved oxygen out of the water. The water enters the mouth, passing the gills and is realsed through the gill slits in the back. When the water flows threw the gill openings it passes little gill filaments. The filaments are covered with microscopic blood vessel capillaries. They have a lower oxygen content then the water surrounding it. The imbalance causes the oxygen water to diffuse into the sharks bloodstream,
