Michael Jordan in Sports Marketing and Advertising

The best ever to play the game. The game is basketball and the player is Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan the all-star, the MVP, the scoring champion, the defensive champion, and the national champion. Those were just a few of his achievements. He has been an all around stud on the basketball court. Off the court you could say the same. He is an actor, a business man, and has been as successful off the court as he has been on the court. How does a rising young athlete stay an athlete and grow into a mature business man?

It was February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York when the star was born. He was named Michael Jeffrey Jordan. Michael had good caring parents by the name of James and Deloris. He had two brothers and two sisters. He grew up in North Carolina and became a good student. Throughout school his favorite subject was always math. He had no idea that the only math he would be doing later in life would be counting his NBA achievements and awards.

Jordan went to Laney High School in Washington, North Carolina. As a sophomore he tried out for the varsity basketball team and was cut. Eventually as a freshman in college at the University of North Carolina

More than being considered the greatest basketball player ever, Michael Jordan proved to be a marketing force of much success. His style, personality, talent and hard work ethic exceeded sports and brought out success in business. His golden touch in television commercials built up all of the companies that he worked for. Jordan used his role model image and marketing talents to create great business and express positive social values to his fans. His fourteen year career will always be a decade and a half to remember forever.

With the Chicago Bulls Jordan didn’t take to long too make a name for himself. In his first NBA season he was named the rookie of the year and played in the all-rookie game during the all-star break. He did it all. He scored, rebounded, passed, played outstanding defense, and most importantly became one of the most inspirational leaders ever to play the game. Throughout his career he won nine scoring championships, four most valuable players (MVP), and most impressively led the Bulls to six National Basketball League Championships. In 1996 Jordan became the first player ever to win the regular season MVP, the All-Star Game MVP, and the NBA finals MVP. He was also named one of the fifty greatest players in NBA history in 1996. Wow, what a great life one may think. However Jordan’s life has not been exactly perfect.

Nike eventually came out with a new brand named after Michael Jordan, named “Jordan”. Now all new products produced under this line were all called Jordan products and Nike was just its creator. One other product produced under Jordan’s name was “Michael Jordan Cologne”. The company that produced the product is Bijan. When Bijan first came out with cologne they predicted to make over $150
