Confucious
Confucius is the Latinized form of K’ung Ch’iu or Master K’ung. Confucius was a man who showed wisdom. He taught moral code based on ethics, humanity and love. He taught his disciples the five virtues, these being courtesy, mag-nan-im-ity, good faith, diligence, and kindness. Confucius only taught to a small number of people saying “I shall not open up the truth, and I shall not help anyone who cannot express his ideas.” He occupied some positions of authority becoming police commissioner of his home state. He only stayed in this position for a year before he went travelling for thirteen years looking for a ruler who would follow his guidance. Not being able to find this he returned home disappointed. “No intelligent ruler arises to take me as his master” he said “My time has come to die.” But before his death he undertook a great writing task organising, writing and putting together the five Chinese classics. They were;• Yi-Ching or book of change – it explains yin and yang and the main idea that circumstances are always changing. • Shu-ching or book of history – it is concerned with the Sage Kings of the Golden Age. • Shi Ching or book of odes – it consists of ballads and songs.
• Yin – honesty and trustworthiness. Ch’iu – a record of events in the province of Lu where he lived. The proposal involving the swapping of the eight characters, the engagement, dowry where the price of the bride is set, the procession, the marriage and reception, and the morning after where the bride serves breakfast to the groom's parents, who then reciprocate the act. • Chung – This is loyalty to the state. • Yi – meaning do what is morally right and show others to do this to.
