Satire - Pop Music

Children are raised and taught that America is the best and they can do whatever they want. At this moment, our country is in a very good place. Although our economy is struggling slightly, we are at war and war seems like a logical way to help the economy. The country presents its citizens with so many distractions to keep our minds off of the war and the thousands that will die because of it. One of these distractions is music. Music of today is really at a high point.
As I walk down the aisle at my music store, I glance at the old music of the 60's and 70's and begin to question the time period. The Vietnam War was in full throttle and these people are trying to write music with "deep messages", experimenting with mind expanding drugs and basically just doing nothing to help the people of the country. I pick up a Doors album along with a Grateful Dead disc. These people all seem burdened by their music. Didn't these people have anything happy to write about? Now I move on to the new releases. I am excited to see the Justin Timberlake's new album has arrived. Now here is a guy who knows what he is doing. People like Britney Spears and R.Kelly have albums on the shelves. Now these are quality musicians considering the status of our country. These people are truly creative forces. I stumbled across a Janis Joplin CD and it left wondering; why in a time of war, did these people choose to use their social popularity to try to convey a message to the American People? Music is definitely headed in a better direction these days. Popular culture in general is really important now a days. No longer do we have to struggle with choosing a side or picking out what makes us feel good or what we believe in. Now all of these things are simply told to us and we don't have to worry about being right, because if the majority tells us this is what is good and this is what you like, then obviously it has to be right.
