In Plato's "The Allegory of the Cave," he suggests that there are two different forms of vision, a "mind's eye" and a "bodily eye." The "bodily eye" is a metaphor for the senses. Plato's Republic - The Three Great Analogies The Allegory of the Cave, like most things in philosophy, can be interpreted in many different ways. It basically says that people are chained to the wall of a cave and they have nothing to look at but shadows on the wall that are provided by another.
