... advocate for social justice (Burger, Youkeles, 2004). We can not expect to curtail the effects of poverty on families and children if we expect them to adapt to their current situation. We need to promote programs that teach families skills to allow them to become less reliant on government assistance and become self-sufficient by way of increased education and better jobs ... . If we ask people to adapt to their situations we are telling them they can not succeed further in life, this attitude will then continue to be passed on to future generations. We can not change the poverty trends...
