IQ Researchers use IQ similarities to try and estimate ones heritability of IQ. The heritability estimate (a statistical estimate of the degree of inheritance of a given behavior, assessed by the degree of similarity between individuals who vary in their extent of genetic similarity) is found by computing the variation in all the test scores for a given populations and then identifying what portion of the total variance is due to genetic factors or inherited factors.
