... to being hopeful of something, the only character not planning up a scheme to fulfill his dream. It seem that Slim has already come to the conclusion that it is best not to hope for it will only make you feel worse than before. In other words "The best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry." The novel ends with Slim reassuring George ... by saying "You hadda George". I think that it was strange because Slim was the only person that didn't have a scheme and didn't have any dreams or hopes. It was like Slim was the only character that had accepted his faith of being a worker ... but...
