Rebellion in the 1920's took several forms, from expected cultural behavior, to rebellion against the law. "The roaring twenties" was just that, with new ideas and behaviors becoming more and more present. It seems as though everyone was rebelling against something, whether it be teens against strict rules, woman against there lack of rights, or "wets" against prohibition. This was a period of rapid changes that are still apparent in our lives today. .
As woman began working, and having duel income, they wanted more rights. Although they were still expected to come home from a days work and do womanly duties of the time, which may include cleaning and cooking. While they fought for their rite to vote, woman were still considered second class citizens. These woman were a prime example of the blue collar hard workers of the era. The flapper however, was a completely different type of lady. Admired by all woman the flapper was described as a young, expensive looking, woman, but was also the ultimate consumer. Both of these are examples of how woman rebelled against there normal roles an set a new wya of life for themselves.
Rebellion against Prohibition was the most constant, as it turned regular Americans into lawbreakers. The 18th Amendment made having beer, wine, or liquor illegal from transporting to consuming. Although ti seemed ot be a good idea, it was very unsuccessful. Americans used there resourcefulness to find ways around the law. Along with the problem of corruption in police forcing, the repeal of the amendment was an obnoxious choice. It started speakeasies, which were places for people to go an consumer alcohol illegally hoping not to get caught. Moonshine became big business, and many people brewed their own alcohol on their land. Even the creator of the law for Prohibition was caught with alcohol being brewed on his land. .
Although these types of rebellions seemed very severe at the time, they were very necessary for patterning our way of life.
