Write about Holden's meeting with Luce

 

             Luce is Holden's advisor when he is in school. Holden always looks up to Luce, as Holden is more sophisticated and experienced. Luce used to tell Holden stories of all his experiences with girls and other incidents and hence Holden always though he has the answers to everything.
             When Holden met Luce he seems distant and he makes it seem like he is doing Holden a big favor by meeting him. Luce is a quiet type who is laconic. He wants to have a quiet drink with Holden and didn't want to talk about anything. He thinks that Holden is immature and acts very disinterested in what Holden is talking about. Holden is very lonely and needs someone to talk to. When he tries telling Luce about his problems hoping he can help Luce just dismisses him and tells him to keep quiet and have his drink. He thinks that Holden is being childish and Luce doesn't have time for childish talks. .
             Luce gets a lot of girls and Holden looks up to him for that. He tries to be sophisticated and starts talking about sex. Luce refuses to talk about any issue with Holden as he Luce thinks he is too suave and has no time for childish talks. .
             Luce is self-absorbed and always seems to be in a hurt. He seems to be doing many things at one time and doesn't have the time to just sit and have a conversation with Holden. " The first thing he said when he sat down was that he could only stay a couple of minutes. He said he had a date. Then he ordered a dry Martini. He told the bar tender to make it very dry and no olive." (Pg. 144) .
